Magnificent book, a brief burst of love, death, denial and friendship. Helen,s friend Nicola comes to stay at her Melbourne  home  while enduring enduring aseries of brutal charlatan treatments for her terminal cancer. Helen fizzes with rage, Nicola smiles too too brightly, impervious to the extraordinary demands her illness makes o n those who love her. Helen’s rage and tenderness, her impatience  and  self-recrimination are perfectly observed, finding  a bleak humour in impossible circumstances.  Five stars. Read it.
